Metrosupial Designs, founded by Katie Purfeerst-Pedersen in 2003, was born from a desire to create something comfortable and stylish to carry her newborn son. Her Seattle-based business now offers a mix of 100% handcrafted baby goods, specializing in custom-made infant pouch and ring slings. Katie works directly with her clients, involving them in the design process and helping them to create their own signature style slings. Katie is passionate about the benefits of babywearing and has been instructing families in the art of babywearing for three years. She teaches private babywearing lessons and holds babywearing workshops at Big Belly Services in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and Birth and Beyond in Madison. Metrosupial Designs’ workshops give people a hands-on opportunity to experiment with different styles of carriers and slings on the market today, as well as a chance to explore the benefits of babywearing for baby and caregiver, pros and cons of each carrier, safety, tips, and troubleshooting. Katie also operates the Seattle Sling Lending Library, a community resource allowing families to borrow slings/carriers for a free, two week period to discover which types might work best for them.
OUR DESIGN:
Metrosupial Designs and Sarita Star Designs (http://saritastardesigns.blogspot.com/) have worked together to produce an original design of the closed-shoulder pouch.
Our unique shoulder design allows the wearer the option of distributing weight across the shoulder and back, without the discomfort of restricting arm movement. The traditional pouch sling “shoulder flip” can also be done.
We purchase only fabric, rings (safety tested) and thread to create our slings. We DO NOT use manufactured cotton/polyester bias tape.

This is probably the most interesting and beautiful pouch sling I have ever seen! I can’t wait to try one with the next babe!
I havent seen a pouch sling as beautiful as these EVER. I think I am just gonna hav
I tracked you down from a comment you left at Soule Mama’s flickr page this morning (I found your flickr, but the link on your profile page didn’t work, so I ended up googling you!).
Your slings are GORGEOUS! The design looks very comfortable, but really it’s your knack for putting fabrics together that makes these look really amazing! I’m tempted, though I have my heart (and body) set on a two-shouldered carrier (do you make Mei Tais?) for my toddler. I’m definitely bookmarking your site to share with others, and for any future babies for us!
Thanks everyone!!!
